About Paula
Paula A. Gregg, Ph.D. was an award winning cat blogger and photographer for Sweet Purrfections, where she wrote about Persian cat health, daily care, education, and the human-animal bond. We can’t mention Paula without mentioning her fluffy loves, Truffle and Brulee (who are being well cared for by their breeder), her first Persian, Sweet Praline (who inspired her to begin blogging), and the cute Beignet (who lived a short but loved life).
She was a long-time member of the BlogPaws Community, served as a BlogPaws Conference Ambassador in 2017, and was also a founding member of the PetBiz Collaborative (formerly known as the All Pet Collaborative). She was also a Professional Member of the Cat Writers’ Association for many years, and even served as the Vice President from 2018 to 2020 and then President from her election in Fall of 2020 until her passing in 2022.
Her vibrant, welcoming personality affected many – if not all – across our community, as she worked endlessly to improve the world for cats. Her legacy is far-reaching and never-ending. We’ll forever remember how her steel magnolia presence filled a room as she greeted everyone in her beautiful southern drawl.
About the Scholarship
To honor Paula, we have created the Paula A. Gregg, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded yearly to a cat writer, blogger, influencer, or small business owner who is looking to grow their online presence. The recipient will receive a 1-year membership to the PetBiz Collaborative.
2023 will mark our first year offering this scholarship in Paula’s honor, but we plan to continue offering this scholarship each year to welcome in a new cat writer, blogger, influence, or small business owner to our community, just like Paula would have.
Who Is the Scholarship For?
This scholarship is for any writer, blogger, influence, or small business owner who:
- Has a primary focus on cats.
- Wants to invest time and energy to grow their online business to reach more people and improve the lives of cats.
- Is able to dedicate a few hours each week to participate with the actions and activities that take place in the PetBiz Collaborative.
- Is not currently a PetBiz Collaborative member.*
*Paula was always a champion for new bloggers and writers, and most specifically those who focus on cats. She even won the Shojai Mentor Award from the Cat Writers’ Association this year (2022). We believe she would be thrilled that her memory could help a new member with their business; and thus, continue her mentorship focus.
Important Dates:
- Applications will open on Friday, November 18th, 2022 at 12:00 pm PST.
- The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm PST Monday, November 28th, 2022.
- The recipient will be notified on or before Monday, December 12th, 2022.
- A public announcement will follow.
The recipient’s PetBiz Collaborative membership will officially begin on Monday, January 2, 2023. They will receive instructions to join the Collaborative on or before this date. Their sponsorship period will end on Saturday, December 31, 2023. At this time, they will have the option to continue their membership at the November 2022 rate of $37/month.
